What is magstripe MRI?
Magstripe MRI is a technique allowing you to use an MR scanner to record non-MR signals such as EEG. The non-MR signals are encoded in a frequency range corresponding to positions just outside the field of view. The technique resembles the magstripe technique used for encoding sound tracks in movies. Advantages are simplicity, reduced cost and avoidance of gradient artifacts hampering most other recording methods. Furthermore, correlation with MRI (e.g. for EEG-fMRI analysis), storage, real-time analysis and feedback is greatly facilitated compared to normal independent recording of non-MRI.
